Farewell Information Centre Publications Officer Pauline Hayward

This month we say goodbye to our Publications Officer Pauline Hayward. Pauline has decided to retire to spend time with husband Peter, who also retires from HERA at the end of March.

Pauline started working for HERA in 1984 back in the Friendship House days when Gavin Fletcher was Director. At that time her function was to do the photocopying on a casual basis. She has followed the developments in the photocopying world from a machine with manual double siding, which always seemed to breakdown at crucial moments, to the modern and very reliable multi-function machines. As the workload in the Information Centre increased, Pauline was asked to take on the role of Publications Officer, dealing mainly with HERA reports and selling books to our members.

Since then, Pauline has taken on a number of roles, including Health and Safety Officer, proof-reader, database management, running the library, Metals Industry Conference administrator, general administration and perhaps most importantly, social events organiser. (Some of you will know how hard it is to get everyone to agree on company social activities!)

Pauline’s strong points have always been her professionalism, thoroughness and willingness to help others, and incredible ‘can do’ attitude for handling new responsibilities and work processes. A hard act to follow! However, she now feels it’s time to hand over the reins to someone else while she peruses her many interests, such as lawn bowls, at a more leisurely pace.
